1:1Quality: Marketing term claiming a replica is a 1:1 (one-to-one) match with the genuine article. In practice no replica is truly 1:1; the term signals 'super clone tier' rather than literal accuracy.

A

AAAQuality: Marketing tier label used by some sellers to imply premium quality. Has no standardized meaning across the niche; do not rely on it.
AR CoatingAnti-Reflective CoatingCrystal: A thin coating applied to watch crystals that reduces reflections and improves dial visibility. Higher-quality replicas include AR coating; cheap replicas often skip it.
AR FactoryFactory: Chinese replica watch factory specializing in Rolex Submariner reproductions. Established around 2016. Often confused with 'AR coating' which is unrelated.
Asian MovementMovement: Generic term for Chinese-made or Japanese-base replica watch movements (e.g., NH35, DG2813). Less expensive and less accurate to genuine Swiss calibers than dedicated clones.
AutomaticMovement: Self-winding mechanical movement powered by an oscillating rotor that winds the mainspring as the wearer moves. Most modern replica watches use automatic movements.

B

Balance WheelMovement: The oscillating wheel that regulates the timekeeping in a mechanical movement. Quality of the balance wheel and hairspring determines accuracy.
BezelCase: The ring around the watch crystal. Can be fixed (Datejust) or rotating (Submariner, GMT). Modern luxury bezels often use ceramic (Cerachrom) which is hard to replicate convincingly.
BPFactory: Chinese replica watch factory historically active in Rolex Daytona reproductions. Reduced production in 2020-2024.
BTFactory: BT Factory, a Chinese manufacturer producing replicas of various Rolex and Omega models.

C

CaliberMovement: Specific model designation of a watch movement. Genuine Rolex 3135 is the caliber name; the cloned version is VR3135 or similar.
Case-backCase: The rear of the watch case. Sapphire case-backs (used in some AP, Patek, Omega models) expose the movement to view, which raises the bar for replica movement accuracy.
CerachromBezel: Rolex's proprietary ceramic bezel material. Highly scratch-resistant and color-stable. Difficult to replicate convincingly; cheap replicas use painted aluminum that fades.
ChronographComplication: Watch with a stopwatch function. The Daytona, Speedmaster, and Royal Oak Chronograph are popular replicated models.
Clean FactoryFactory: Top-tier Chinese replica watch factory established in 2018. Specializes in Rolex sports models (Submariner, GMT, Daytona). Produces VR3135, VR3186, and VR4130 movement clones. Considered the leader in the super-clone tier in 2026.
CloneQuality: A replica that aims to match the genuine article in materials, dimensions, and movement. 'Super clone' is the highest tier.
Côtes de GenèveFinishing: Decorative wave-pattern finishing on watch movement bridges. Common on high-end Swiss movements; replicated to varying degrees of accuracy in cloned movements.
CrownCase: The knob on the side of a watch used to wind the mainspring or set time. Rolex crowns have screw-down threads for water resistance.
CrystalMaterials: Transparent cover over the dial. Sapphire crystal is standard on luxury watches and quality replicas; cheaper replicas use mineral or hardened mineral glass.
CyclopsCrystal: The 2.5x magnifying lens over the date window on Rolex watches. Quality and curvature are signature Rolex elements; poor cyclops execution is a common replica giveaway.

DatejustModel: Long-running Rolex dress watch line, available in 36mm and 41mm. The most-replicated Rolex dress model.
DialCase: The visible face of the watch showing time and complications. Dial printing quality is one of the strongest indicators of replica tier.

ETAMovement: Swiss movement manufacturer (subsidiary of Swatch Group). ETA 2824 and ETA 2836 are common base movements that some replicas use or clone.

F

FactoryManufacturing: In replica watch context, a Chinese manufacturer that produces a recognizable line of replica watches. Examples: Clean, VSF, ZF, AR, Noob, BT, PPF, KW.
Folding ClaspBracelet: Bracelet clasp that folds onto itself when closed. Modern Rolex Oysterlock and Easylink mechanisms are signature elements that vary in replication quality.

GenuineAuthenticity: Authentic, factory-original watch made by the trademarked brand. Distinct from 'replica' which is an unauthorized copy.
GlidelockBracelet: Rolex's micro-adjustment system on dive watch bracelets allowing 20mm extension. Quality replicas reproduce this; cheap ones skip it.
GMTGreenwich Mean TimeComplication: Watch complication showing a second time zone via a 24-hour hand. Rolex GMT-Master II is the iconic example.

HairspringMovement: Tiny coiled spring attached to the balance wheel. Determines movement accuracy. Genuine Rolex uses Parachrom hairspring (paramagnetic); replicas typically use steel.
Helium Escape ValveCase: A valve that releases trapped helium during decompression. Found on saturation diving watches like Sea-Dweller and Planet Ocean. Mostly aesthetic on land use.
HomageQuality: A watch inspired by a famous design but not bearing the brand's name or trademarked elements. Legal to sell on most marketplaces. Sometimes used as a re-framing of replica content.

I

IndicesDial: Hour markers on the dial. Can be applied (raised, hand-attached) or printed (flat, applied with ink). Applied indices are higher quality.

JewelsMovement: Synthetic ruby bearings used at friction points in mechanical movements. Higher jewel counts (29-31 typical) reduce wear.
JFFactory: JF Factory, a Chinese replica manufacturer with a varied catalog including AP Royal Oak Offshore.

MainspringMovement: Coiled spring that powers a mechanical watch. Power reserve hours are determined by mainspring length and material.
MOPMother of PearlDial: Iridescent natural material used in some dress watch dials. Rare in standard sport models but common in Datejust ladies' versions.

Noob FactoryFactory: Long-established Chinese replica watch factory dating to the late 2000s. Historical leader in Rolex Submariner reproductions. Production resumed in 2024-2025 after intermittent pauses.

OEMOriginal Equipment ManufacturerManufacturing: Genuine factory parts. In replica context, sometimes used to describe genuine parts (e.g., genuine Rolex bezel insert) installed in a replica case.
OysterBracelet: Rolex's three-link sport bracelet pattern. Standard on Submariner, GMT, Daytona, and most sports models.
OysterlockBracelet: Rolex's safety clasp on Oyster bracelets, with secondary fold-over lock.

Power ReserveMovement: How long a fully wound watch will run without further winding. Modern Rolex 3235 has 70 hours; older 3135 has 48 hours.

QC PhotosQuality Control PhotosBuying: Photos a dealer sends a buyer before shipping, showing the actual watch the buyer is receiving. Standard practice with trusted dealers; allows the buyer to approve or reject before shipping.
QuartzMovement: Battery-powered movement using a quartz crystal oscillator for timekeeping. Rare in luxury replicas (collectors prefer mechanical) but exists in some entry-level reproductions.

RehautDial: The slanted inner ring around the dial of newer Rolex watches, engraved with 'ROLEX ROLEX ROLEX' and the serial number. Engraving accuracy is a common replica giveaway.
RepGeekCommunity: Established replica watch forum, smaller than RWI but with active community. Has its own Trusted Dealer list distinct from RWI's.
ReplicaQuality: An unauthorized copy of a trademarked watch. Distinct from 'homage' (no trademark elements) and 'genuine' (factory original).
RepTimeCommunity: Active replica watch subreddit (r/RepTime) with ~700k members. Functions as a Reddit-based alternative to dedicated forums like RWI and RepGeek.

Sapphire CrystalMaterials: Synthetic sapphire crystal used as watch glass. Extremely scratch-resistant. Standard on quality replicas.

TachymeterBezel: Scale on a chronograph bezel that allows speed calculations. Standard on Daytona and Speedmaster.
TDTrusted DealerCommunity: A seller who has been vetted by an established replica watch forum (RWI, RepTime, RepGeek) and approved to sell to community members. Each forum has its own TD list with different criteria.
TributeQuality: Synonymous with 'homage'. A watch inspired by a famous design but without trademark infringement. Legal on Etsy, eBay marketplaces. Sometimes used as re-framing of replica products.

VR3135Movement: Cloned Rolex 3135 movement produced primarily by Clean Factory. 28,800 vph, 31 jewels, 48-hour power reserve. Considered the gold-standard Rolex caliber clone.
VR3186Movement: Cloned Rolex 3186 GMT movement. The only true GMT clone in the niche with independently jumping hour hand. Used in Clean Factory GMT-Master II reproductions.
VR4130Movement: Cloned Rolex 4130 chronograph movement used in Daytona reproductions. Produced by Clean Factory and VSF. 72-hour power reserve.
VSFVS FactoryFactory: Chinese replica watch factory established 2014. Specializes in Omega Seamaster and Speedmaster, plus Rolex Daytona. Pioneer of cloned Co-Axial movements (8500/8800).

Water Resistance (WR)Specs: Depth rating for water exposure. Submariner spec is 300m; Sea-Dweller 1,220m. Replicas often print spec but practical WR varies; do not test.

ZFZF FactoryFactory: Chinese replica watch factory established 2012. Specializes in Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Patek Philippe Nautilus. Industry leader for haute horlogerie replicas.
