ZF Factory has been building haute horlogerie replicas since 2012 across three brands. 3K Factory arrived in 2021 and builds Patek only. On the Nautilus, the newcomer has taken the lead. On everything else, ZF has no competition from 3K at all, because 3K does not build it.

Where 3K Factory wins
The current 5711 movement. This is the decisive point and it is a specification, not an opinion. Patek replaced the 324 SC with the 26-330 SC in current 5711 production. 3K's clone of the 26-330 SC entered production in 2023, carries 30 jewels and a 45-hour reserve, and shows Patek-style Geneva striping with a properly skeletonised rotor through the sapphire case-back. ZF's documented Nautilus calibre is the older 324 SC. If you want your watch to match what Patek builds today, only one of these factories can do it.
Dial pattern depth. The 5711's embossed horizontal dial pattern is the hardest thing about the watch to reproduce. 3K's embossing accuracy is rated the current benchmark and is consistently placed above ZF's Nautilus output by experienced collectors.
The bracelet-to-case junction. The integrated bracelet is the 5711's other signature, and the junction is a known weak spot for other factories. 3K's integration is tight. This is exactly the kind of detail that decides an integrated-bracelet watch.
904L steel. 3K uses 904L on sport models, matching genuine Patek case specification, plus 18k rose gold and white gold on premium references. ZF uses 316L with hand-finishing.
The Aquanaut and the 5712. 3K covers the Aquanaut 5167A and the white gold 5168G, and it clones the 240 PS IRM C LU for the 5712 annual calendar, a movement with moonphase, power reserve indicator, and pointer date. ZF has no equivalent.
Where ZF Factory wins
The AP Royal Oak, unopposed. 3K does not build Audemars Piguet. ZF's Royal Oak reproductions, and specifically the tapisserie dial pattern and the beveled case edges, are the best in the niche. Its cloned 3120 carries 40 jewels, a 60-hour reserve, and Côtes de Genève finish on the bridges, visible through the case-back.
Hand-finishing on case bevels. ZF's steel is 316L rather than 904L, and its answer is finishing rather than material. On a Royal Oak, where the bevel is the whole point of the case, hand-finishing is worth more than steel grade, and it is the reason ZF leads that segment. Be precise about the scope though: on premium 5711 builds the two factories are effectively tied on case finishing, because both hand-finish the bevels there. ZF's finishing advantage is over lower-tier factories, not over 3K.
IWC coverage. The Pilot's Chronograph is ZF's, and 3K does not compete.
Availability. 3K runs smaller production volumes and its 5711 and 5712 references hit intermittent waitlists. ZF's larger volume makes it the faster route to a watch in hand.
A marginally lower entry price. The bands are the same, but ZF still edges lower on entry references. It is a small difference and it is consistently in ZF's favour.
Fourteen years of production data. ZF has been building since 2012. 3K arrived in 2021, so there is less long-term durability evidence for it. That is not a criticism of 3K's output, it is a statement about how much field data exists.
The older 5711 specification. If you want a 5711 that matches the earlier 324 SC production, both factories clone it, and ZF's is well established.

The honest summary
3K is better at one brand. ZF is competent across three.
On the Nautilus specifically, 3K's newer tooling has outpaced ZF's, and the 26-330 SC clone is a capability ZF simply does not have. That is what happens when a factory narrows its focus to a single family and iterates on it.
The cost of that focus is everything 3K does not build. ZF's breadth is not a weakness in the Royal Oak segment, it is the only option.
Price barely moves the decision. Both sit at $1,400 to $1,700 and ZF edges marginally lower on entry references, so this is a capability decision rather than a budget one.
What neither of them settles
Integrated-bracelet watches punish sloppy assembly more than dive watches do. The bracelet junction, the bevel transitions, and the dial pattern all show under normal light, not just under a loupe.
That makes quality-control photographs more important here, not less. Ask your dealer for photographs of your actual watch, look specifically at the bracelet-to-case junction and the dial pattern under angled light, and read the spotting quality guide before you approve anything.
