VSF vs ORF is the real choice for an Omega Seamaster Diver 300M in 2026. VSF is the conservative pick, because its current movement generation has the longer owner record, and the May 2026 update of the r/RepTime "Who Makes the Best" guide lists VSF first for the Seamaster 300 Diver with an 8800 clone. The guide lists ORF only for Seamaster models with an Asian 2824. ORF is a serious alternative: owners praise its bracelet and some dial details, but its newest free-sprung movement appeared only in mid-2026, too recently to judge its reliability.

This page covers the 42 mm steel Seamaster Diver 300M with a date (the 210.30.42.20 family), not the titanium No Time To Die or the 43.5 mm ceramic models.

Movements: what "8800 clone" means

Both factories sell an "8800 clone". Treat that as a sales name. In an October 2025 thread in a watch service community, a commenter wrote that the VSF escapement "is not coaxial AFAIK", and another wrote that the movement is "very similar to 2892" and uses many 2892 parts. Nobody has published a full teardown that settles it.

ORF moved from a decorated 2824-type base (2021) to a Shanghai-based 8800 with a ceramic ball-bearing rotor (June 2026 dealer comparison), and the author of a July 15, 2026 thread wrote that ORF "has now upgraded it to a free-sprung version". When a buyer showed a free-sprung ORF in August 2026, commenters argued whether the photo really showed the new movement. Ask your dealer to confirm the version.

VSF vs ORF Seamaster, part by part

Wave dial and printing. A June 2026 dealer comparison took both watches apart and found ceramic dials in both. The main difference was the red "Seamaster" text: brighter on VSF, darker burgundy on ORF. On the white dial, several owners in October 2026 preferred the ORF red text and thinner black printing; others preferred VSF.

Marker alignment. Both factories have bad examples. In June 2026 one buyer wrote of rejecting two ORF watches from another dealer because the six o'clock marker was slanted. In September 2026 a VSF owner reported markers that fell off after a QC that looked fine. Check the 12 o'clock double marker, the 3, 6 and 9 markers and the date in your photos.

Ceramic bezel. The June 2026 comparison found the two bezels alike in look and feel. In July 2026 an owner who has both a genuine watch and a VSF said the major tells were the looseness of the bezel and the smoothness of the bracelet.

Helium escape valve. In July 2026 a thread claimed the VSF valve sits slightly high. An owner of both a genuine watch and a VSF compared them side by side and saw no difference. Call it a disputed tell at most. Do not treat the valve as proof of any diving ability.

Bracelet. In August 2026 an owner of both factories' watches found the ORF bracelet smoother, with better-defined end-link ridges. In October 2026 another commenter agreed that the ORF bracelet is smoother and the VSF bracelet sharper, and a buyer who chose VSF wondered if ORF was closer to genuine. ORF also had the better bracelet polish in a 2021 comparison, but with sharp clasp corners.

Reliability. In September 2026 a blue VSF owner reported a bad rotor bearing and a date change near 4:30 in the morning; the replacement ground when the owner wound it. For the ORF free-sprung version, a commenter in a September 2026 thread wrote that it is "too new to tell its reliability". Spare parts for the VS8800 are hard to find, so plan for service by a watchmaker who knows these movements.

Where the other factories stand

  • ZF: in August 2024 a buyer quoted the guide as listing a 2824 for the ZF Seamaster. The May 2026 guide lists ZF second, after VSF, for the Seamaster 300 with an Asian 2824.
  • Clean: no verified Clean Seamaster 300M. The February 2026 guide update removed Clean Factory, and the May 2026 guide lists no Clean Seamaster.

How to choose between VSF and ORF

  • You want the safer movement record: VSF with the Dandong 8800.
  • You care most about bracelet feel and white-dial printing: ORF, and accept a shorter record on the free-sprung movement.
  • Either way: check marker alignment and the date in the QC photos, and get the movement version in writing.
